How to tweet more than 140 characters from within twitter

Twitter has a limit of 140 characters. People often wonder how to type in and tweet a message longer than twitter limit. Some people use external sites that breaks down longer tweets and either create multiple tweets or post curtailed tweets with a link that allows followers of a person to read the entire tweet saved somewhere else outside the twitter.

It is bit annoying actually to leave your twitter window just to read a full message. Also if it is an important message or some promotional message that you tweet as an organization to your customers, who follow you, there is a danger that they might ignore your message if it requires them to go to some external site to read it. This is definitely not a good solution to how to post longer tweets.

Now the obvious question is - Is there any way to tweet longer from within twitter itself ?

Almost all of you, including the developers of twitter, would answer in comprehensive "No".  After all there was a purpose behind limiting the tweets to their limits and so it was coded that way from the start. But you know what - I have a habit of proving people wrong and making impossible things possible. You can definitely post a longer tweet without using anything else than your twitter.com account. That's what I am going to show you now.

You will have to use all your creativity here. In order to accommodate a message longer than 140 characters, here's what you can do:

1) Break down your tweets: In this method you basically divide your entire message into shorter messages. This is bit like what 'tweet longer' sites do. Only difference is that we do tweet breaking ourselves and this will allow us to have better control of where to break our message.

• First type in your long message in compose box of twitter. Twitter will warn you by highlighting the characters that exceeded the limit, but it still does allow you type in characters. So type your full message message.
  
  
  
• Now count the characters in your tweet. This is actually easy to do just add to whatever twitter shows after a negative (-) sign to 140. For example, in above picture it shows minus fifty eight (-58). So total length of message is 140 + 58 = 198.
• Divide the message length by 140 to get the number of sub-tweets. You might not get the whole number. Convert it to the next higher integer number and that will give you number of sub-tweets. For example, dividing 198/140 gives us 1.41428. The next higher integer is 2. Thus we need to compose two tweets.
  
• Now compose first tweet with 136 characters and write at the end in bracket (1/sub-tweet number). Similarly compose second tweet and write at the end (2/sub-tweet number). Replace sub-tweet number with what you calculated above. Do this for all the sub-tweets to tweet the entire message. Here is nice example of how sub-tweets make an entire tweet.
  

2) Take a snapshot and post your lengthy tweet: Above method is bit tedious. But this one is fast and easy. Here you just have to take a snapshot or screenshot of your long twitter message and post it as a picture on twitter. Most Microsoft Windows based computers already have it installed. You can also download and install it. Just type in 'snipping tool' in google search and you will have good ones listed on your screen.
